ZS6DN now licensed to the SARL - The ZS6DN HF beacon, part of the NCDXF/IARU International Beacon Project, is now licensed in the name of the SARL. The beacon is installed on the SALBU farm in Irene, Pretoria. It was for decades looked after by the late Dave Larsen. On his passing a few years ago the family agreed that the SARL should take over the callsign and that the beacon will remain on the farm with ZS6GE as the custodian. It took a long time to have the callsign transferred to the SARL but after several approaches to ICASA it has finally happened. Each beacon in the system transmits once on each band once every three minutes, 24 hours a day.
A transmission consists of the callsign of the beacon sent at 22 words per minute followed by four one-second dashes. The callsign and the first dash are sent at 100 watts. The remaining dashes are sent at 10 watts, 1 watt and 100 milliwatts. At the end of each 10 second transmission, the beacon steps to the next higher band and the next beacon in the sequence begins transmitting. Visit http://www.ncdxf.org/beacon
