Why doesn't my username and password come across from the SARL Web? |
|
This forum is a separate system from the SARL website itself. It uses MySQL as a database and not the SARL Database from HQ.
Furthermore... This advisory forum may include people from outside of Amateur Radio such as people at ICASA or the DOC, these people will not have callsigns and possibly not be members of the SARL.

You've probably seen others use smilies before in e-mail messages or other bulletin board posts. Smilies are keyboard characters used to convey an emotion, such as a smile or a frown . This bulletin board automatically converts certain text to a graphical representation when it is inserted between brackets []. Here are the smilies that are currently supported by SARL Forum:

How do I add images or photos? |
|
1. Where to host (store) your images
To display images, you need to use an image hosting service, in other words somewhere on the web to store the images you want to display.
You then need to upload the images to your chosen hosting service (which may also be webspace provided "free" with many internet accounts).
Examples of free image hosting sites are Photobucket at www.photobucket.com or Flickr at www.flickr.com. These services require you to register with them before use.
The upload process could be as simple as browsing to the photo's location on your hard disk and clicking "upload" (as with most free photo hosting sites), or in the case of free web space, using a FTP client to do the upload (not going to cover ftp here, suggest the first option if you're not familiar with ftp.)
Size: For the convenience of fellow site users, keep images small, generally under 100 kB is fine.
2. How to post the images on this forum
To post images in a forum topic, click on the "insert image" icon under "Format" on the "New Topic" form. (Icon is small arrow next to a pic of a mountain)
You will get: (img) (/img)
Now you need to copy and paste (Ctrl C to copy, and Ctrl V to paste) the URL (full address) of your image between the (img) (/img), for example:
(img)http://name.imageserver.com/mypicfilename.jpg (/img)
(Where name.imageserver.com refers to the web address of your chosen photo hosting service or website)
Your image should now display on the forum.
Note: the "[img]" brackets are actually square, but shown here as round, since the forum software would otherwise interpret them as forum code
NB:Remember, the "insert image" function simply allows you to reference or point to your photo or image which is stored somewhere else. The SARL forum does not provide image storage facilities. For "insert image" to work, you must already have the images stored on the image hosting service of your choice.

How do I change my forum username / callsign ? |
|
This has to be performed by the Forum administrator. Simply post a request or send an e-mail. Your username may be changed to any valid unused name, for example your callsign. Do not register again under your new callsign when you upgrade, it is easily changed.
|
I have not received my registration e-mail? |
|
Upon the administrator's approval of your account, you should receive an e-mail message where you are asked to follow a link to complete the registration process. If you have not received this message, it could be due to spam filtering or other message blocking taking place on your mail system. Contact the forum admin for assistance.
